FAIRY TALE CLOSET AT DALLAS PUBLIC LIBRARY

Additional Information

Friends of the Dallas Public Library invites you to support an annual tradition that

brings together high school students to receive free formal prom wear for our Fairy Tale Closet event. We are writing to you because we need your help with prom dress donations (especially plus-size), tuxedos, shoes and accessories.

For the tenth consecutive year the annual program provides formal wear to high school students who may not be able to afford to attend prom without our Fairy Tale Closet event. Our high school students need the support of friends like you to enhance this memorable prom experience.

In 2023, Fairy Tale Closet will take place on multiple dates in March and April at the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library in downtown Dallas. More than 250 young men and women are anticipated to take advantage of this unique library service.

In addition to generously raiding their closets to fill the Fairy Tale Closet with formal wear in various styles and sizes, as well as a small selection of shoes and accessories, community volunteers help on-site as personal assistants and fashion, hair, and makeup consultants.

Community interest in this program has grown, thanks to local & national media coverage (NBC5, Fox4, The Dallas Morning News, Christian Science Monitor, NowThisNews) and word-of-mouth. This event remains an important and effective channel for the Library to connect with area teens, reinforcing teenagers’ perceptions of their public library as a welcoming and helpful resource as they enter the next stage of their life.

How you can help

Donate and we'll do the shopping

Donations of all sizes are welcome. Funds are used to purchase formal wear for all sizes. Each year the library receives generous donations, but often those donations don't include sizes for everyone. Donations can be made by check, made payable to Friends of the Dallas Public Library, 1515 Young Street, 7th Floor, Dallas, TX 75201. Include "Fairy Tale Closet" on the memo line.

Donate gently used items and services

Dresses (especially plus sizes); suits, tuxedos accessories (shoes, jewelry, handbags, etc.); makeup and hair products; dry cleaning services; gift certificates, snacks.

Take your donations to any Dallas Public Library location. Find your closest branch here - http://dallaslibrary2.org/hours.php
