Library Support is Long Overdue!

In tough economic times, investments in libraries take our tax dollars further. Research shows that every dollar invested in public libraries yields $4.64 in access to resources, programming, services, and technology.

THE RUNDOWN

What We Support

Five flagship libraries open seven days a week with expanded evening hours

What We Do Not Support

Permanent closure of neighborhood branch libraries

To Achieve This

The Dallas City Council should restore $2.6 million to the 2026/2027 budget.

What You Can Do

Contact your City Council member. Ask them to restore library operating funding and keep branches open.

Restoring $2.6 million of a $5.2 billion budget is a fraction of a percent. For context, if a person were making $76,000 a year, this would be the equivalent of saving $3 once a year, less than a cup of coffee.

Libraries are so much more than just books and programming.

A library can literally transform communities, creating resource-rich spaces that improve not only the lives of the people who enter the doors, but the lives of the surrounding community. Data shows us...

ReduceD Crime Rate

Libraries reduce crime in their immediate vicinity, with substantial reductions in burglary, vandalism, robbery, fraud and assault.

Safe Spaces

Libraries with evening hours offer safe spaces for young adults to gather. In Frisco, the extended hours saw an incredible number of teenage boys as super users.

Resource Assistance

In Dallas, resource connections at specific branches direct users to organizations that provide homeless services, health support and food security.

Libraries impact our communities.

Libraries are one of the remaining taxpayer-funded, safe, and inclusive third spaces, a place other than home or work where residents can build community, relax, and meet with friends and neighbors. But their impact on the surrounding community is greater than the sum of its parts. Libraries have been shown to improve...

Quality of Life

Have a statistically significant relationship with many quality-of-life factors, including a community’s level of educational attainment, per capita and median household income, and number of jobs.

Learning while Young

The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) showed a significant correlation between NAEP reading scores and public libraries’ circulation of children’s reading materials.

unity in Community

The Dallas Public Library’s partnerships and programming bring people together for everything from English-language learning and job fairs to crafting, local history, and book clubs.
